Welcome to the Peapod Academy. Join some of the cutest babies, toddlers, & preschoolers in town and adults of their choice at the Library. Little peas will enjoy books & storytime, songs & music, fingerplays, movement, hands on activities, arts & crafts, and other cadets. Each week has a different theme. Get to know others and support your little one’s developmental skills. No preregistration required.
Saturday, June 4 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.-18th Annual Poetry Contest Public Reading & Awards
Master of Ceremonies, John Gardiner, hosts a public reading of winning poems entered into this year’s poetry contest, “Surf & Sand.” Top three winners in each age category will be recognized and invited to read their winning poems to the public.
Saturdays, June 4 & 18 at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Poetry Workshop
Participants should bring 10 copies of a poem they wish to have read and work-shopped. Each poem will be read by the poet and perhaps by another reader. Participants then respond with emphasis on positive comments and constructive suggestions. Recommended for advanced poets-this is not a workshop for beginners. Meets in the Community Room. Get creative! Let your imagination run wild! Children under 12 are encouraged to come to the library during the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to make fun and creative seasonal crafts. Adult supervision is recommended.

Thursdays, June 9 & 23 at 3:30-4:30 p.m. - 3-D Printing at Laguna Beach Library
Schedule a 20-minute session with our 3-D printer. Customize an object usingMakerbot Printshop software and prepare it for printing. Staff will print the item and contact you when it is ready for pickup. Space is limited, so preregistration is required. Consult the library for available times or for more information ask a staff member.

We will be meeting to discuss The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie - A young couple on the brink of marriage--the charming Veblen and her fiancé Paul, a brilliant neurologist--find their engagement in danger of collapse. Along the way they weather everything from each other's dysfunctional families, to the attentions of a seductive pharmaceutical heiress, to an intimate tête-à-tête with a very charismatic squirrel. Teens, ages 12 to 17, are needed to volunteer at the library this summer from June 20-August 1. Pick up a volunteer application at the Information Desk or download from this site. We need help with our Children’s Summer Reading Program. Teens must attend one of the 1-hour training sessions. Join the team! Join us for an engaging presentation about life with baby and general infant safety. Michelle Smith is a nurse, infant specialist and founder of OC Mommas & Babes. This discussion will focus on child and infant CPR, baby proofing, and overall baby safety. Presented by Laguna Beach Public Library and the Laguna Beach Parents Club (LBPC).
