Thursdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. — Peapod Academy Children’s Storytime

Welcome to the Peapod Academy. Join some of the cutest babies, toddlers, & preschoolers in town, and adults of their choice, at the Library. Little Peas will enjoy books & storytime, songs & music, fingerplays, movement, hands on activities, arts & crafts, and other cadets. Each week has a different theme.  Get to know others and support your little one’s developmental skills. No preregistration required.


Thursday, June 1 at 3:30 p.m. -4:30 p.m. ­—  3-D Printing Workshop

Schedule a 20-minute session with our 3-D printer. Customize an object using software and prepare it for printing.  Staff will print the item and contact you when it is ready for pickup.  Space is limited, so preregistration is required.  Consult the library for available times, or for more information ask a staff member. Sign-up at the Check-Out Desk.


Saturdays, June 3, 10, 17 & 24 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. — Children’s Craft Open House

Get creative! Let your imagination run wild!  Children under 12 are encouraged to come to the library during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to make fun and creative seasonal crafts.  Adult supervision is recommended. 


Saturday, June 3 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.19th Annual Poetry Contest Public Reading & Awards

Master of Ceremonies, John Gardiner, hosts a public reading of winning poems entered into this year’s poetry contest, “Seaside Butterflies.”  Top three winners in each age category will be recognized and invited to read their winning poems to the public.


Saturday, June 3 & 17 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. — Poetry Workshop

Participants should bring 10 copies of a poem they wish to have read and work-shopped.  Each poem will be read by the poet and perhaps by another reader. Participants then respond with emphasis on positive comments and constructive suggestions. Recommended for advanced poets—this is not a workshop for beginners. Meets in the Community Room. Mondays, June 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 10:00a.m - 1:00 p.m. — Third Street Writers Group Ink
Serious writers working on projects (short stories, novels, plays) meet to share feedback and support.  This is not a workshop for beginners.  Contact the library for additional information. 


Tuesday, June 6 & 13 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. — Pajama Storytime

Please come (wear pajamas & slippers!) & enjoy the Sunshine Readers as they whisk the whole family off to dreamland.  The National Charity League, Laguna Chapter, generously provides this program.

Wednesday, June 7 from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.—Parent’s workshop, Family Fun Ideas to Promote Reading and Learning this Summer!

We encourage parents to attend this workshop immediately after our weekly 10:30 storytime; Presented by LBUSD Early Learning Specialist,  Claudette Adher, who will provide parents with tools and resources that promote happy and healthy families, and offer tips to promote summer learning, summer reading logs, and family fun ideas for staying healthy this summer. Take this opportunity to speak with an early childhood expert about any concerns or questions you might have regarding your child. No preregistration required. This program is free.


Thursday, June 8 at 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. — Read to a Dog — Salsa!

Kids can read aloud to Salsa, our therapy dog.  She’s so sweet and a very good listener. Bow-Wow! Please preregister at the Children’s Desk or call the library. Drop-ins welcome too! 


Saturday, June 10 from 11:00a.m.- 12:00 p.m. , and Thursday June 15  from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.- Teen Volunteer Training

Volunteer at the library this summer!  Attend our Teen Volunteer Training and Orientation on  Tuesdayevening or Saturday morning.  Teens need to fill out the application before starting.  Get community hours and have some fun at the library this summer. For more information  ask any staff member.


Monday, June 12 at 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. — Adult Book Discussion Group

We will be meeting to discuss The Undoing Project : the Friendship that Changed our Minds. Forty years ago, Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically, when forced to make judgments in uncertain situations. 


Wednesdays, June 14, 21 & 28 from 11:00  a.m. to 12:00 p.m. —  Sunshine Readers Family Storytime

The National Charity League, Laguna Chapter, presents the Sunshine Readers!  Enjoy a fun & lively Family Storytime presented by local teen NCL members.  Each show lasts approximately 1 hour and includes refreshments. No pre-registration required. All ages welcome!


Wednesday, May 10 from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – After School STEM Program.

Our STEM program promotes critical thinking, problem solving and creativity—for kids 9-years and up.  We’ll learn all kinds of cool ways to design things that go! We’ll play with the weather and work with math concepts too.  It’s fun and awesome to learn through hands-on experience! Preregistration is required. Limited up to 5 participants. Fridays, June 16, 23 & 30 from 2:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m.—Crafts with Amy

Looking for something to do on a summer afternoon?  Bring your children ages 5-12 years to create crafts with local LBHS student, Amy You. We’ll be using some interesting materials to make projects you’ll enjoy and want to share. 

Children 5-6 must be accompanied by an adult. Children 7—12 may attend on their own. Preregistration required. Please sign up in person or call the library at 949-497-1733. Class is limited to 18 people.

Anthony Hernandez is known nationally as one of the most refreshing, energetic illusionists performing today! His shows are exciting, interactive, filled with comedy, and very charming. His interaction with the kids he brings onto the stage is unlike any other performer you have seen. You will fall in love with this dynamic show.


Monday, June 26 from 5:30 p.m. -6:30 p.m.– Author Talk: Bryn Barnard

The Earth—our home—is covered mostly with water: the wide, deep, salty, and very blue ocean. It regulates our climate in a way that makes life as we know it possible. This huge ocean is full of an amazing amount of life, most of which is too small to see. The New Ocean, by Bryn Barnard, is a fascinating look at the future of our oceans—and how human actions may change them.

Magic Steps Music Together is for children and music lovers of all ages!  Each child participates at his own level in singing, moving, chanting and listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. The whole family is welcome for this fun family music experience.  No preregistration required.


Tuesday, June  27 from 3:00 p.m.—4 p.m.– Read to the Dog, Venus

Do your kids love to read aloud, or just need to practice their reading skills?  Come meet Venus and Georgie, therapy dogs from Beach Animals Read to Kids (B.A.R.K.)! Bubble Mania & Company provides educational entertainment at the highest level of excellence. We combine incredible visual choreography with interactive script formats that involve the audience's minds and hearts. Operating since 1986 in the Los Angeles area, Bubblemania and Company has now expanded to service Southern California and the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento Areas.
