Thursdays, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 at 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Peapod Academy Children’s Storytime
Welcome to the Peapod Academy. Join some of the cutest babies, toddlers, & preschoolers in town and adults of their choice at the Library. Little peas will enjoy books & storytime, songs & music, fingerplays, movement, hands on activities, arts & crafts, and other cadets. Each week has a different theme.  Get to know others and support your little one’s developmental skills. No preregistration required.
 
Saturday, June 4 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.-18th Annual Poetry Contest Public Reading & Awards
Master of Ceremonies, John Gardiner, hosts a public reading of winning poems entered into this year’s poetry contest, “Surf & Sand.”  Top three winners in each age category will be recognized and invited to read their winning poems to the public.
 
Saturdays, June 4 & 18 at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Poetry Workshop
Participants should bring 10 copies of a poem they wish to have read and work-shopped.  Each poem will be read by the poet and perhaps by another reader. Participants then respond with emphasis on positive comments and constructive suggestions. Recommended for advanced poets-this is not a workshop for beginners. Meets in the Community Room. Saturdays, June  4, 11, 18 & 25 at 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Children’s Craft Open House
Get creative! Let your imagination run wild!  Children under 12 are encouraged to come to the library during the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to make fun and creative seasonal crafts.  Adult supervision is recommended. 
 
Mondays, June 6, 13, 20 & 27 at 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Third Street Writers Group Ink
Serious writers working on projects (short stories, novels, plays) meet to share feedback and support.  This is not a workshop for beginners.  Contact the library for additional information. (No meeting April 30).
 
Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Pajama Storytime
Please come (wear pajamas & slippers!) & enjoy the Sunshine Readers as they whisk the whole family off to dreamland.  The National Charity League-Laguna Chapter generously provides this program.
 
Thursday, June 9 at 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Read to a Dog - Salsa!
Kids can read aloud to Salsa, our therapy dog.  She’s so sweet and a very good listener. Bow-Wow! Please preregister at the Children’s Desk or call the library. Drop-ins welcome too! 
 
Thursdays, June 9 & 23 at 3:30-4:30 p.m. ­-  3-D Printing at Laguna Beach Library
Schedule a 20-minute session with our 3-D printer. Customize an object usingMakerbot Printshop software and prepare it for printing.  Staff will print the item and contact you when it is ready for pickup.  Space is limited, so preregistration is required.  Consult the library for available times or for more information ask a staff member.
 
Saturday, June 11 at 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.­ - Why Do You Need Estate Planning?
Meet with Nathaniel F. Epstein, Esq. to learn about legal issues: Guardians for minor children, how to avoid probate, protect assets, plan for personal incapacity, and reduce estate taxes.  Presented by the Law Offices of Edward S. Inouye, you have the opportunity to ask questions during the last 30 minutes of this program. Meets in the Program Room.  No preregistration necessary.
 
Monday, June 13 at 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Adult Book Discussion Group
We will be meeting to discuss The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie - A young couple on the brink of marriage--the charming Veblen and her fiancé Paul, a brilliant neurologist--find their engagement in danger of collapse. Along the way they weather everything from each other's dysfunctional families, to the attentions of a seductive pharmaceutical heiress, to an intimate tête-à-tête with a very charismatic squirrel. Copies of the book are available at the Check-out Desk.
 
Tuesday, June 14 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. or Saturday, June 18 at 11-a.m. to 12 p.m.- Teen Volunteer Training
 Teens, ages 12 to 17, are needed to volunteer at the library this summer from June 20-August 1.  Pick up a volunteer application at the Information Desk or download from this site.  We need help with our Children’s Summer Reading Program. Teens must attend one of the 1-hour training sessions.  Join the team! It’s a great way to do community service and get volunteer work experience. Contact the library at 949-497-1733.

Friday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. - ‘Life with Baby-Infant Safety”
Join us for an engaging presentation about life with baby and general infant safety.  Michelle Smith is a nurse, infant specialist and founder of OC Mommas & Babes. This discussion will focus on child and infant CPR, baby proofing, and overall baby safety. Presented by Laguna Beach Public Library and the Laguna Beach Parents Club (LBPC).
 
Tuesday, June 21 and 28 at 6:30-7:30 - Summer Reading Entertainment Events!
See Abbit the Magician perform his comedy magic show on June 21!  Wild Wonders with exotic animals from around the globe will perform June 28.  No preregistration required.  Come early for the best seats!
 
Wednesdays, June 22 & 29 at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. -  Sunshine Readers Family Storytime
The National Charity League, Laguna Chapter, presents the Sunshine Readers!  Enjoy a fun & lively Family Storytime presented by local teen NCL members.  Each show last approximately 1 hour and includes refreshments. No pre-registration required. All ages welcome!
 
Saturday, June 25 from 1:00 -2:30 p.m.-  Introducing Chess at the Library! 
Join chess coach Lior as he helps children and parents learn the basics of chess.  To sign up or get more information, please inquire at the desk.  These classes occur monthly the 2nd Tuesday and the 4th Saturday. All levels of experience are welcome.  Meets in the Program Room.  No preregistration required.
 
Tuesday, June 28 at 3:30 -  4:30 p.m. - B.A.R.K. Read to a Dog
Do your kids love to read aloud, or just need to practice their reading skills?  Come meet Venus and Georgie, therapy dogs from Beach Animals Read to Kids (B.A.R.K.)! Children can read to a certified therapy dog, eager to listen and love. Aaarf!  Sign up at the Children’s Desk.  Drop-ins welcome too.
