Wednesdays, May 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 11:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.— Toddler Techy Storytime

Stories are important. That’s why we combined the classic storytime with technology to introduce Techy Storytime. We are going to use iPad, Apple TV, and occasionally 3D printer to make it fun and educational. 

 

Thursdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. — Peapod Academy Children’s Storytime

Welcome to the Peapod Academy. Join some of the cutest babies, toddlers, & preschoolers in town, and adults of their choice, at the Library. Little Peas will enjoy books & storytime, songs & music, fingerplay, movement, hands on activities, arts & crafts, and other cadets. Each week has a different theme.  Get to know others and support your little one’s developmental skills. No preregistration required.

 

Saturdays, May 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 9:00 a.m.— 3:00 p.m. — Children’s Craft Open House

Get creative! Let your imagination run wild!  Children under 12 are encouraged to come to the library during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to make fun and creative seasonal crafts.  Adult supervision is recommended. 

 

Saturday, May 4, from 10:00 a.m.—12 p.m.—May the 4th Be With You

Join us to celebrate Star Wars Day by creating your own Tie-fighter, and Lightsaber, and decorate cupcakes. Wear your Star Wars costumes! All ages are   welcome! The program is free.

 

Saturdays, May 4 & 18 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. — Poetry Workshop

Participants should bring 10 copies of a poem they wish to have read and work-shopped.  Each poem will be read by the poet and perhaps by another reader. Participants then respond with emphasis on positive comments and constructive suggestions. Recommended for advanced poets—this is not a workshop for beginners. Meets in the Community Room. Mondays, May 6, 13 & 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. — Third Street Writers Group 
Serious writers working on projects (short stories, novels, plays) meet to share feedback and support.  This is not a workshop for beginners.  Contact the library for additional information.

Join our math program Bedtime Math: Crazy 8’s Club for a series of fun math activities for kids K-2nd grade.

Kids can read aloud to our therapy dog, Mike. He’s so sweet and a very good listener. Bow-Wow! Please sign up at the Service Desk or call the library. Drop-ins welcome, too!

 

Tuesday, May 7 from 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. — Pajama Storytime

Please come (wear pajamas & slippers!) & enjoy the Sunshine Readers as they whisk the whole family off to dreamland.  The National Charity League, Laguna Chapter, generously provides this program.

 

Wednesday, May 8 from 3:00 p.m.—4:30 p.m. ­—  3-D Printing Workshop

Schedule a 20-minute session with our 3-D printer. Customize an object using software and prepare it for printing.  Staff will print the item and contact you when it is ready for pickup.  Space is limited, so preregistration is required.  Consult the library for available times, or for more information ask a staff member. Sign-up at the Check-Out Desk.

Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.—Laguna Beach Library Banned Books Club

Join this rebel reading group once a month to discuss a book that has been challenged and/or banned. This month we will be discussing The Art of Racing in the Rain: A Novel by Garth Stein.  

 

Monday, May 13 from 5:30 p.m.— 6:30 p.m.—Laguna Beach Library Book Club

Join Laguna Beach Book Group 2nd Monday of each month. We’re going to discuss the book Ragtime: a Novel by E.L. Doctorow.  Published in 1975, Ragtime changed our very concept of what a novel could be. An extraordinary tapestry, Ragtime captures the spirit of America in the era between the turn of the century and the First World War.

Saturday, May 18 from 11:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.—R2-D2 & BB-8 Replicas with Mike Senna

Mike Senna is a skilled prop maker hobbyist and a computer programmer. He will be showing how he builds his amazing creatures and actually demonstrating how they work! Everybody is welcome to wear  Star Wars costumes and take pictures!

 

Thursday, May 30 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. —  B.A.R.K: Read to the Dogs
